Description An Ad Hoc Committee for sustainability was formed at Illinois Central College in the Fall of 2007 to investigate and plan guidelines for meeting a sustainable future. The goal of this committee is to bring our academic, business operations, and management of our grounds and buildings inline with accepted principals of sustainability.

Tangible Actions

1. Establish a policy that all new campus construction will be built to at least the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver standard or equivalent.

Yes: ICC is committed to building all new major renovation and new construction to at least LEED Silver standards. We currently have one building renovation and one new addition on target for reaching LEED Siver Certification.

2. Adopt an energy-efficient appliance purchasing policy requiring purchase of ENERGY STAR certified products in all areas for which such ratings exist.

Yes: ICC as a means of good practice tries to purchase ENERGY STAR certified products whenever possible. We are in the process of writing an administrative procedure that reinforces such activity.

3. Establish a policy of offsetting all greenhouse gas emissions generated by air travel paid for by our institution.

No: ICC rarely provides air travel for it's employees.

4. Encourage use of and provide access to public transportation for all faculty, staff, students and visitors at our institution.

Yes: All of ICC's campus have direct access to public transportation routes.

5. Within one year of signing this document, begin purchasing or producing at least 15% of our institution's electricity consumption from renewable sources.

Yes: ICC will participate in the 2011 RecycleMania program in the Benchmark Category. We currently divert over 30% of our waste from landfills through our recycling program.
