Description In September 2007, former President Robert Shelton affirmed the University's commitment to sustainability by establishing the Campus Sustainability Committee. In June 2010 a transition team was established to transform Campus Sustainability given new funding and the anticipation of additional programs. The Transition team recommended establishing a presidential advisory council, a central office of sustainability, and a committee to manage a sustainability fund. All three were implemented in the fall of 2010. In 2012 the University submitted its first Climate Action Plan, articulating strategies across a range of functional areas of the University. In October 2015, current President Ann Weaver Hart signed the new Second Nature Climate Commitment. Efforts are underway to develop an internal process for development of an updated Climate Action Plan that includes climate resilience and updated carbon reduction goals.
