Description The Chancellor's Task Force on Environmental Sustainability has been charged with providing guidance, direction, and policy proposals relative to climate neutrality and environmental stewardship.

1. Establish a policy that all new campus construction will be built to at least the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver standard or equivalent.

Yes: Campus design standards are completed and are included in the University Master Plan. The current commitment is to include a requirement to satisfy the silver LEED criteria on all new construction projects.

2. Adopt an energy-efficient appliance purchasing policy requiring purchase of ENERGY STAR certified products in all areas for which such ratings exist.

Yes: USC Aiken has been selecting Energy Star compliant computers, washer, dryers, and kitchen equipment for several years. To solidify this purchasing practice, the Chancellor's Task Force will be working with the University's purchasing department to develop an appliance procurement policy that requires all requests for bid to include the Energy Star specification.

3. Establish a policy of offsetting all greenhouse gas emissions generated by air travel paid for by our institution.
