Tangible Actions

1. Establish a policy that all new campus construction will be built to at least the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Silver standard or equivalent.

Yes: We have already done an analysis and established the current design for our new science building will be at the silver LEED certification level. A higher level might be achieved with additional features like a green roof, bike rider facilities, electric car station and used or "green" building materials. The President is committed to increasing our energy conservation efforts in new construction and for remodeling projects.

2. Adopt an energy-efficient appliance purchasing policy requiring purchase of ENERGY STAR certified products in all areas for which such ratings exist.

5. Within one year of signing this document, begin purchasing or producing at least 15% of our institution's electricity consumption from renewable sources.

Yes: I have requested XCEL Energy, our local supplier of electricity to give us a formal estimate for the purchase of 15% wind energy and we expect to meet or exceed this goal in the next few months.
