Please describe the process of conducting the inventory.

The process of conducting the carbon footprint inventory was managed by the Director of Sustainability for Aquinas College, with assistance from student interns and multiple college employees.

Building square footage was obtained directly from an energy report prepared during an audit by PSI. Utility totals, campus fleet data, and refrigerant amounts were directly computed from bills in the Physical Plant Office. Commuter distance and transportation habits were estimated using an extensive survey of faculty, staff, and students. Business travel miles were gathered by contacting individual departments heads. Waste totals came from our RecycleMania inspection reports, and fertilizer use from the Grounds Department.

Faculty were assumed to drive to campus 32 weeks/year, staff 50 weeks/year, and students 32 weeks/year, based on average schedules.

Travel mileage only included reimbursed miles and we acknowledge that other non-reimbursed, business related travel may have occurred. Directly Financed Outsourced Travel (Scope 3- Other) was based on self-reporting by individual departments.
