The Antioch University Los Angeles 2011 GHG emissions inventory uses a proprietary Three Squares, Inc. (TSI) carbon calculator. All assessment and calculation methodologies utilized in the TSI calculator are based on the most recent industry best practices. Previous years GHG emissions for Antioch University Los Angeles used Clean Air Cool Planet Campus Carbon Calculator.

The GHG inventory was conducted through the collaboration of AULA administrators, the Urban Sustainability program, students and the consulting firm, Three Squares Inc. Initial research was conducted to develop an inventory management plan that outlined the various emissions sources and measurement strategies. An emissions calculator was created and used to process data and calculate emissions totals. The emissions data along with supporting information and boundary conditions were included in a final inventory report

As that the campus space has expanded to include additional classroom space, it was decided to report scope 1 emissions for this inventory. In order to collect data for the scope 3 emissions, we had worked with an AULA student to create and distribute a transportation survey. The information collected from the intern's research has been submitted to AULA as a part of her internship reporting, however, it was decided to omit the university's scope 3 emissions. Due to the complexity of commuter patterns as a result of the low residency program, it was difficult to capture emissions data in a statistically significant and accurate level. We would also like to recommend that in order to capture Scope 3 moving forward we would advise having the accounting system report out on mileage reimbursed to faculty for travel and flights reimbursed so that the report can capture these data points. The commuter survey would need to be mandatory for AULA due to the varying commuting patterns for the different programs a sample may not give an accurate report
