The University's Student Housing Division owns 31 houses that are rented to students. Electricity and natural gas consumption data for these houses is included in the GHG Inventory, but the areas of the houses are not included in the gross square feet of building space because that information is not available.

Please describe the process of conducting the inventory.
Sightlines collaborated with the Facilities Management & Planning and the Campus Planning & Sustainability Departments of Southern Oregon University to collect data for the inventory. The components collected are within the three scope emissions on campus: direct activities on campus, utility production not at the institution, and all other indirect emissions. All these units are expressed in Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (MTCDE) to provide the campus GHG emissions. The inventory is gathered through reports, surveys, and/or third party files and knowledge. The components collected are listed below:

Solid waste generated by the University is not weighed so that data was not available. The estimated emissions from solid waste were calculated using dumpster volume, quantity and pickup frequency data.

Southern Oregon University purchases RECs to offset 100% of the its electricity consumption, and purchases carbon offsets to offset 100% of the its natural gas consumption. In doing so, SOU has been able to reduce the net greenhouse gas emissions on campus for the years that the offsets were purchased.
