GHG Report for Inver Hills Community College

Submitted on September 21, 2009; last updated on September 21, 2009

Summary Statistics

Making fair comparisons between higher education institutions is always challenging due to the rich diversity of higher education. The unverified nature of the information in this database and unavailability of unbiased normalization metrics means such comparisons are even more difficult. Users should therefore approach direct institution to institution comparisons with caution and recognize that all comparisons between institutions are inherently biased.

Emissions Inventory Methodology and Boundaries

Start date of the 12-month period covered in this report July 1, 2007
Consolidation methodology used to determine organizational boundaries Financial control approach
If any institution-owned, leased, or operated buildings or other holdings that should fall within the organizational boundaries are omitted, briefly explain why.

Leased facilities for specific classes have been omitted. These facilities are owned by others and shared among educational institutions. Those facilities are located in Apple Valley and Burnesville and within companies such as United Hospital, Thomson Rueters, and Marathon Oil.

Emissions calculation tool used Clean Air-Cool Planet
Please describe why this tool was selected.

It has become the standard in higher education and is recommended by the ACUPCC.

Please describe the source(s) of the emissions coefficients used.

CA-CP Campus Carbon Calculator's default emissions coefficients used.

Which version of IPCC's list of global warming potentials did you use? Third Assessment Report
Who primarily conducted this emissions inventory? Co-Chair Facilities PCC
Please describe the process of conducting the inventory.

The Co-Chair for Facilities of the Presidents Climate Commitment supervised the inventory. Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions were defined relative to Inver Hills Community College and data collected for each catagory.

Please describe any emissions sources that were classified as de minimis and explain how a determination of the significance of these emissions was made.

No information provided

Please describe any data limitations related to this submission and any major assumptions made in response to these limitations.

Campus employee and student rosters listing home address zip codes were used to calculate commuting distance. Students who listed a zip code greater than 70 miles from campus were assumed to have moved closer to campus and were reassigned a commute of 10 miles.
