The ASC Climate Commitment Council will be able to formalize our target date once the energy improvements being implemented by the campuses construction and the Technical Energy Audit components have been completed. The formal establishment of footprint reduction items listed in the current CAP document will also impact our target date. Pinning down an exact neutrality date is difficult as exact energy reduction benefits of the energy audit, renovations, and solar panels installation that are in progress.

Mitigation of greenhouse gases will be realized through the College's efforts such as renovations that include energy efficiency improvements to some of our older residence halls as well as academics buildings. Based on the Technical Energy Audit information we have moved forward with renovations to residence halls. The College has also seen a complete redo of McDaniel Hall and the Music building. These improvements have upgraded the buildings LEED qualification levels. Coronado Hall and Residences at the Rex, qualify for Silver LEED level. Girault Hall received a Gold rating and Platinum for McDaniel Hall, our Education and Social Studies building. Not only will these improvements help reduce our carbon emissions significantly through the reduced electrical and heating needs. Further footprint reductions will be realized from our solar panel and proposed geothermal projects. We have just completed an installation of solar panels on the roof of our Athletic building, Plachy Hall, which will provide 10% of the heating needs for that building. A geothermal grant application was submitted to the Department of Energy in 2008. When in place it would be the largest geothermal heat pump systems of its kind in the U.S., providing nearly 100% of the College’s heating needs.
