Alfred State plans to implement a wide range of technological and behavior change strategies to reduce our energy consumption. Simultaneously, we will work to transition to clean renewable energy sources. Likewise, we pursue transportation demand strategies to reduce total commuter miles traveled and support shift to higher efficiency vehicles and carbon neutral fuels among commuters.
Alfred State will continue efforts to infuse sustainability throughout existing courses with a vision of eventually adding a sustainability general education requirement. For students who seek a deeper exposure to sustainability, we plan to develop new sustainability-focused courses, concentrations, and degrees. To supplement curriculum efforts, we plan to implement a variety of co-curricular programs to create a culture of sustainability on campus.
Alfred State is primarily a teaching college and so our plan does not address research.
Alfred State seeks to support and empower the surrounding community to set and achieve its sustainability goals. We intend to achieve this by sharing our sustainability experiences with the community, seeking partnerships with like-minded entities in the area, and supporting government policy consistent with our sustainability objectives. We also plan to expand the Alfred Community Garden.
